Wayman Education is working with a Secondary School in Bedford to recruit a dedicated Learning Support Assistant. The school is seeking a patient, encouraging and committed individual who can provide effective support to pupils and help them access the curriculum successfully.
The successful candidate will work alongside teachers and the school's wider support team to provide targeted assistance in lessons and help pupils develop greater confidence and independence in their learning.
The Role
The Learning Support Assistant will provide classroom and individual support to pupils who require additional assistance with their education.
The role will involve working alongside teachers to support pupils during lessons, helping them understand instructions, complete activities and develop appropriate study skills. The successful candidate will adapt their approach according to individual pupil needs and encourage pupils to become increasingly independent.
The Learning Support Assistant may work with pupils on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, supporting literacy, numeracy, organisation and general classroom engagement. They will help pupils remain focused, encourage positive participation and provide reassurance where pupils may lack confidence.
The successful candidate will communicate regularly with teaching staff regarding pupil progress and contribute to the implementation of agreed support strategies. They will maintain appropriate records and share relevant observations with teachers and pastoral colleagues.
The role may also involve supporting pupils during transitions between lessons and assisting with wider school activities when required.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have experience working with children or young people in a school, education, childcare, youth work or similar environment. Previous experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs would be beneficial.
The successful applicant should be patient, approachable and able to build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers are essential.
A commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing is required, alongside a willingness to adapt to different learning needs and classroom situations.
