About the School

A well-established secondary school in Oxford is seeking an experienced Science Technician to join its science department. The department delivers a broad practical curriculum and requires someone who can confidently prepare laboratories, equipment and resources ahead of lessons.

This is a school-based position, and previous experience working within a secondary school or college science department is essential.

The Role

You will work closely with teaching staff to ensure practical science lessons run safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing practical experiments and demonstrations.

  • Setting up laboratories before lessons.

  • Preparing chemicals, apparatus and other resources.

  • Supporting Biology, Chemistry and Physics practicals.

  • Maintaining laboratory equipment.

  • Monitoring stock levels and reporting when resources need replacing.

  • Cleaning and storing equipment correctly.

  • Following COSHH and school health and safety procedures.

  • Maintaining preparation rooms and laboratories.

  • Reporting damaged or faulty equipment.

  • Assisting with practical examinations.

  • Supporting teachers with practical demonstrations.

  • Ensuring all materials are safely stored and labelled.

Requirements

Previous school or college Science Technician experience is essential.

Candidates should have a strong understanding of laboratory safety and be comfortable working in a busy secondary science department.

An enhanced DBS will be required.
