We are seeking an organised, reliable and detail-focused Finance Officer to join the administrative team of a welcoming primary school in Maidenhead.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional who enjoys working in a school environment and takes pride in maintaining accurate financial records. Working closely with the Headteacher and school leadership team, you will play an important role in ensuring the school’s day-to-day financial processes are managed efficiently, accurately and in line with relevant procedures.
The Role
As Finance Officer, you will take responsibility for a range of financial and administrative duties, supporting the smooth financial operation of the school.
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing day-to-day school finance administration, including invoices, purchase orders, payments and receipts.
Processing income and expenditure accurately and maintaining well-organised financial records.
Monitoring budgets and expenditure, identifying discrepancies and escalating concerns where appropriate.
Supporting the preparation of financial reports, forecasts and budget information for the Headteacher and senior leadership team.
Processing supplier invoices and assisting with supplier account queries.
Maintaining accurate records of school purchases, commitments and outstanding payments.
Supporting payroll and staff-related financial administration where required.
Assisting with banking, reconciliations and other routine financial controls.
Managing school trip, club and activity payments, ensuring income is recorded accurately.
Working collaboratively with colleagues, parents, suppliers and external organisations in a professional and helpful manner.
Ensuring financial procedures are followed consistently and confidential information is handled appropriately.
What We Are Looking For
The successful candidate will be confident working with figures and financial systems, with excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to their work.
You will ideally have:
Previous experience in a finance, accounts or school administration role.
Strong numerical and organisational skills.
Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
Confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and financial or accounting systems.
The ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a busy school environment.
Good communication skills and a professional, approachable manner.
The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team.
A high level of integrity and discretion when handling financial and personal information.
An understanding of confidentiality, financial controls and safeguarding within a school setting.
