A welcoming secondary academy in Swindon is seeking a practical, dependable School Caretaker to maintain site security, cleanliness, and facilities upkeep for an immediate (ASAP) start.

Job Overview

The Caretaker plays a central role in ensuring the campus remains secure, clean, safe, and fully operational for pupils, staff, and visitors every day.

Working alongside the Premises Manager, you will perform daily unlock/lock-up routines, undertake general building maintenance, conduct health and safety checks, and respond to emergency repair calls across the estate. This is a full-time, ongoing or permanent position.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out morning unlock routines or evening site security closures, including setting alarm systems

• Perform routine repair work across woodwork, painting, basic plumbing, lock replacements, and minor fixtures

• Conduct regular health and safety checks, including fire alarm tests, emergency lighting, and water temperature monitoring

• Respond to spillage calls, portering requests, movement of furniture, and daily delivery distributions

• Oversee site cleanliness, litter clearance, and seasonal grounds tasks (gritting pathways, leaf clearing)

• Assist external contractors visiting the site, ensuring safe access and verifying job completions

Candidate Requirements

• Hands-on experience in caretaking, site maintenance, building repairs, or skilled trade work

• Practical knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general DIY repairs

• Familiarity with workplace Health & Safety practices, manual handling, and safe chemical handling (COSHH)

• Reliable, trustworthy nature with a strong work ethic and proactive problem-solving mindset

• An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
