Wayman Education is working with an Independent Secondary School in Richmond to recruit an experienced Attendance Officer. The school is seeking a highly organised individual who can monitor pupil attendance, maintain accurate records and work closely with families and staff to promote strong attendance.
The successful candidate will play an important role in identifying attendance concerns early and ensuring appropriate follow-up takes place.
The Role
The Attendance Officer will take responsibility for monitoring daily attendance and punctuality across the school.
The role will involve checking attendance registers, following up unexplained absences and contacting parents and carers where appropriate. The successful candidate will maintain accurate attendance records and ensure relevant information is recorded on the school's management information system.
The Attendance Officer will identify patterns of absence and lateness and provide information to pastoral leaders and senior staff where further intervention may be required. They will support attendance meetings, maintain records of interventions and communicate agreed actions to relevant colleagues.
The position will also involve working closely with pupils to understand barriers affecting their attendance and helping pastoral staff put appropriate support in place. The successful candidate may assist with attendance improvement plans and monitor progress over time.
The role requires a professional and persistent approach, particularly when communicating with families about attendance concerns. All information must be handled sensitively and confidentially.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in school administration, attendance, pastoral support or a similar role. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail are essential.
The successful applicant should have strong communication skills and be confident speaking with parents, pupils and staff. Good IT skills and experience using school databases or management information systems would be beneficial.
The school is looking for someone who is reliable, professional and able to manage sensitive situations calmly. An understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality is essential.
