Role Overview
An ambitious secondary school in West Bromwich is seeking a skilled, proactive, and safety-conscious Design & Technology Technician to join their DT and Creative Arts department ASAP. Working alongside specialist teaching staff, you will ensure workshop environments, machinery, CAD/CAM equipment, and practical materials are fully prepared, safe, and ready for daily lessons across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE Design Technology / Resistant Materials / Graphics), and Key Stage 5.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare materials, tools, and equipment for practical lessons in woodworking, metalworking, plastics, and electronics.
Maintain, service, and perform safety checks on workshop machinery (e.g., band saws, pillar drills, lathes, laser cutters, 3D printers).
Oversee health and safety standards in all workshop prep rooms, enforcing strict COSHH, CLEAPSS, and DATA guidelines.
Manage department stock levels, organize raw materials, and assist with procurement and order processing.
Support classroom teachers and pupils during practical workshop sessions, ensuring safe tool handling and equipment usage.
Key Requirements
Practical qualifications or background in Design & Technology, Engineering, Carpentry, Product Design, or a related technical discipline.
Familiarity with workshop health and safety standards (DATA / CLEAPSS certification is highly desirable).
Experience operating hand tools, traditional workshop machinery, and modern CAD/CAM equipment (3D printers, laser cutters, 2D Design).
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to equipment maintenance and safety.
Legal right to work in the UK.
