Wayman Education is working with a Secondary School in Hastings to recruit a Music Technician to support its music department. The school is seeking an organised and enthusiastic individual who can help prepare instruments, maintain equipment and support the delivery of practical music lessons.
The successful candidate will work alongside music teachers to ensure that classrooms, rehearsal spaces and performance areas are appropriately equipped. This role would suit someone with an interest in music and practical experience handling instruments or audio equipment.
The Role
The Music Technician will provide practical and technical support to the music department, helping ensure lessons, rehearsals and performances run smoothly.
Responsibilities will include preparing musical instruments and equipment for lessons, arranging resources for individual and group activities and ensuring classrooms and rehearsal spaces are ready for use. The successful candidate will help maintain instruments, check equipment for damage and report any faults that require repair.
The role will also involve organising music resources, keeping storage areas tidy and monitoring the availability of instruments, cables, stands and other departmental equipment. The Music Technician may assist with setting up microphones, speakers and basic audio equipment for performances, assemblies and school events.
Additional duties will include helping teachers prepare materials for practical lessons, supporting the organisation of rehearsals and assisting with the movement and storage of equipment. The successful candidate will be expected to follow safe handling procedures and ensure that instruments and technical resources are stored appropriately after use.
The role may also involve assisting with concerts, showcases and other events on the school calendar, helping the department prepare the necessary equipment in advance.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have an interest in music and experience working with musical instruments, audio equipment or practical resources. Previous experience in a school music department, rehearsal venue or performance environment would be advantageous.
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a practical approach to problem-solving are essential. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with teachers and pupils, managing equipment carefully and preparing resources to meet lesson schedules.
Basic knowledge of audio equipment and instrument maintenance would be beneficial. The school is also looking for someone who is reliable, flexible and able to work independently while following departmental procedures and safeguarding expectations.
