Wayman Education is working with a Secondary School in York to recruit a Finance Officer who can support the effective management of the school's financial administration. The school is looking for an organised and numerate individual who can maintain accurate financial records, process transactions and assist with routine financial reporting.
The successful candidate will work with the school's finance team and wider administration staff to help ensure financial procedures are followed consistently.
The Role
The Finance Officer will assist with the day-to-day financial operations of the school, supporting accurate record-keeping and the timely processing of payments and invoices.
Responsibilities will include processing purchase invoices, checking supporting documentation, assisting with supplier payments, raising invoices and maintaining accurate transaction records. The successful candidate will update accounting systems, reconcile statements, investigate discrepancies and support the monitoring of departmental budgets.
The role will also involve maintaining records of expenditure and income, assisting with purchase orders and procurement administration, responding to routine finance enquiries and helping prepare financial reports for school leaders. The Finance Officer will maintain organised financial files, follow the school's internal financial controls and handle confidential information appropriately.
Additional duties may include assisting with month-end processes and providing general financial administration support to colleagues when required.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a finance, accounts or bookkeeping role, with strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail. Confidence using spreadsheets and financial software is important, alongside the ability to maintain accurate records and meet deadlines.
The school is seeking someone who is methodical, organised and comfortable investigating discrepancies. Good communication skills, an understanding of confidentiality and financial controls, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team are essential. Previous experience in a school or public-sector finance environment would be advantageous.
